We were approached by a developer who had acquired this small triangular site with an established use as a car wash. The site had been the subject of several failed applications for office and residential use. We developed a proposal for three flats making economically efficient use of the site with innovative layouts providing spacious, light filled flats, each with access to good quality external space and secure cycle storage. Our proposal for a high-quality contemporary building gained planning consent in 2017. Building on such a small site surrounded by existing buildings and with limited clear working space made construction a particular challenge. Working with the contractor we developed a solution using a lightweight steel frame and panel construction with many components being manufactured off site. This resulted in a thermally efficient building completed over a shortened construction period. The building was completed in 2021.
